Howdy, Aloha, Hello, and こんにちわ.
My name is Spencer. I have moved around quite a bit, but usually I weasel out of explaining it all and tell people I’m from Texas. I went to high school there and that is where I feel I became me, for better or for worse.
My wife’s name is Sho. She as born and raised in Japan, but came to the States after graduating high school to study English and complete university.
We met in Hawaii where we were both in the same undergraduate program at BYU-Hawaii. We studied International Cultural Studies, which is to say, we studied each other and made a case study of our relationship. We have been married for 5 years, so I’d say we earned an A+.
We now live in Tokyo, Japan, or just outside it. I work in Tokyo as a Consultant for Deloitte Tohmatsu Consulting. Before movign to Japan, we had more time for this side business of ours in Washington, DC where I did a master’s degree in Communication, Culture and Technology at Georgetown University. Before coming to Japan my studies and work focused on diplomacy, in particular cultural diplomacy.
My studies greatly influenced my photography. I use my cameras as a way to communicate and as a way to record a feeling of ‘us’, or ‘you’, as the case may be. Of course I bring my own style to the process, but what I love most is when people say something like, “Wow, that is so US! That is such an US moment!” We have done work from coast to coast in the US as well as in Japan and a little in Europe… Ok we did one week of jobs in Spain. But that counts, right?
Now, I will leave you with a picture of me. One that is vain and silly, but which I secretly like. Mainly I like my shoes. Seeing myself in this picture made me realize it was time to grow up and shave the gotee, though. Oh well. I hope you like what you see here on our site and I hope to hear from you soon!

Dear Mr. Spencer,
How are you? miss you… and miss old days… I see you are in Japan right now… you should come to Erbil,Iraq one day… it is so safe and stable…
Anyway I would like to say Hi! and tell you your I liked your picture.. you are so handsome
Regards,
Sarkan
Thank you, Sarkan! I am glad things are doing so well there. Someday I would love to visit!
